Neuralink
Neuralink is the latest upcoming technology introduced by Elon Musk. Neuralink is a neurotechnology and this company was started by Elon Musk and others, developing implantable brain-machine interfaces (BMIs). It was started in 2016 and was first publicaly reported in March 2017.
It's subsequently started to carrying out research at the University of California. The Neuralink team revealed to the public the technology of the first prototype they had been working on it. It is a system that involves ultra-thin probes that will be inserted into the brain, a neurosurgical robot that will perform the operations and a higth-density electronic system capable of processing information from neurons.
The
probes, composed mostly of
polyamide, a biocompatible material, and coated in a thin gold thread, will be inserted into the brain through an automated process performed by a surgical robot.
Each probe consist of an area of that contains electrodes capable of locating electrical signals in the brain, and a sensory area where the wire interects with an electronic system that allows amplification and acquistion of the brain signal.
Each of the probe contains 48 or 96 wires, each of which contains 32 independent
electrodes; acheiving this way a system of upto 3072 electrodes per formation.
Neurosurgical robot:
Neuralink has developed an
Application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) to create a 1,536-channel recording system.
This system consists of 256 amplifiers capable of being individually programmed ("analog pixels"), anolog-to-chip converters within the chip ("ADCs") and a peripheral circuit control to serialize the digitized information obtained.
It aims to convert information obtained from neurons into an understandable binary code in order to achieve greater understanding of brain functionn and the ability to stimulate these neurons back. Currently, electrodes are still too big to record the firing of individual neurons, so they can record only the firing of a group of neurons; Neuralink representatives beleive this issue might get mitigated algorithmically, but it's computationally expensive and does not produce exact results.

It's really hard and high risk to implant the neuralink by humans. So, Elon musk and his team had invented a surgical robot to implant the neuralink on humans. It has been programized to accurately implant the neuralink within a shortest time.
“While the patient may not be awake to see the machine in action, it was still important to design a non-intimidating robot that can aesthetically live alongside the iconic machines in Musk’s portfolio,” the company explains in a press release. “It also needed to meet a long list of medical requirements in terms of sterility and maintenance, and provide safe and seamless utilization for its operators.”

Woke says the Neuralink surgical robot can be separated into three main parts: The head, the body and base. The head of the robot is that helmet-like piece, which actually holds the head of the patient. It also includes a guide for the surgical needle, as well as embedded cameras and sensors to map the patent’s brain. The intent of the design of this piece, which includes a mint-colored interior, is to give the robot “an anthroprmorphic characteristic” that helps distract from the invasive nature of the procedure. There are also single-use disposable bags that line the interior of the helmet for sterile operation.
Engineering with brain:
"A Direct Link Between the brain & Everyday Technology"
The initial goal of this technology will be, to help people with paralysis to regain independence through the control of computers and mobile devices. Our devices are designed to give people the ability to communicate more easily via text or speech synthesis, to follow their curiosity on the web, or to express their creativity through photography, art, or writing apps.
"The Future of Neural Engineering"
The link is a starting point for a new kind of brain interface. As neuralink technology develops, we will be able to increase the channels of communication with the brain, accessing more brain areas and new kinds of neural information. This technology has the potential to tear a wide range of neurological disorders, to restore sensory and movement function, and eventually to expand how we interect with each other, with the world, and with ourselves.
Whenever we want we can able to play any videos within our mind. We can share our dream and creativity with others. It helps to recover our body from any diseases and help us to make antibodies to kill the micro organisms which causes diseases.
"Link & Neural threads"
- Sealed, implanted devices that process, stimulates, and transmits neural signals.
- Each small and flexible thread contains many electrodes for detecting neural signals.
- Charger:- Compact inductive charger wirelessly connects to the implant to charge the battery from the outside.
Neuralink tests their devices by surgically implanting them in the brains of
live monkeys, pigs and other animals. These methods have been
criticized by groups such as
PETA.
Several neurology scientists have commented on the intention of Musk and members of Neuralink to build a brain-computer interface. The response from the scientific community has been mixed.
